Drew,
ReplyDeleteHow can I follow a letter from your mom? Should I follow a letter from your mom?
I remember when you were months old, I went to your parents' house and held you. I had been the baby of the family up until that point and now here I was a big cousin! I was pretty excited. Life however, takes unexpected twists and turns. Families grow apart and you go on to make your own life and your own world.
Finding you on Facebook was a total blast. Here I was reconnecting with family that I had not seen nor heard from in years and years. YOU were the only one who took the time to mail me and see how I was doing. Random late night mails discussing politics, healthcare, and other world events. Most importantly, just a "hello" that never needed a reply. I loved those the most. It made me feel like a part of my family was still active. We had planned to get together when you settled down and I am sorry that we were not able to. I would have loved to see you and get to know you more than on a computer screen. From what I do know is that you were loved, whether you see it or not. And your life taught me to try to reconnect with certain people (that will always just be between you and I) because life is too precious. People love us Drew, its just hard for some of them to show it in ways that we understand. I wish that you would have opened up to me more, because I would have told you that.
So, I know you are up there, keeping an eye out for your family and friends. I am happy to know I have you on my side. Hug Mema for me. Its never "goodbye", it's really "until we meet again".
Your cousin,
Olivia.
